Microsoft Retail Stores

The walls of the Microsoft Stores are a continuous digital wallpaper that is designed to promote products, extend campaigns, inform of services, and celebrate holidays. Every month I design content for these walls that are composed of over 60 LCD monitors (60000 x 1080 px). I work with various product teams’ design guidelines to promote launches for groups such as Kinect, Windows Phone, Office, xBox, and zune. Occasionally I work with assets provided by other agencies to help extend a campaign in-store, but the most exciting requests are when we have the opportunity to build from our own concepts developed at PBJS (Wayfinding, Father’s Day, Microsoft History, etc.). The wall strategically engages the customers, entertains to enhance the shopping experience, and helps drive sales. It’s a powerful tool that allows us to control the energy in the store and presence of new products. The challenges of working on a massive scale project like this is considerable, but size and positioning are vital to test repeatedly. A 60000×1080 pixel composition might look like a thumbnail on your computer monitor, but it’s quite dynamic in-store.
